Krisit Spitzer, BSW, M ED, LPC-MH-SUPERVISEE
Background: I am originally from the Aberdeen area and grew up on a cattle ranch with my family. I received my BSW from the University of Minnesota Moorhead, and my Masters degree in Education from Northern State University. I am a certified prevention specialist, licensed addiction counselor and a mental health counselor at the LPC level.
Specialties: My career began working with children in foster care and with their families to attempt reunification. I then worked with children and families who hadn’t been successful with traditional services so intensive case management, called Wrap Around was used with Home Based Counseling services. A significant period of my career was spent working in the area of substance abuse and working with adolescents and their families. This work was expanded to young adults when I accepted a position in a University and added work with identity issues, the LGBTQ community, those desiring gender reassignment, anxiety, depression, self-harm, trauma and family of origin work.
Accomplishments: I am proud to be the mother of two adolescent boys and have been married
to my husband for over 30 years. Professionally, I am proud to have been selected by my peers
in the substance abuse field to represent them on the state certification and licensing board and
receive confirmation by the SD Governor’s office for this honor. I also was recognized by the
SD Counselor Association for Outstanding Contributions to the field by a non counseling
professional prior to returning to school to receive my Masters Degree.
My goals as a clinician at Rising Hope are to provide quality mental health services to those
who enter my door and to further my experience in trauma, couples and family counseling.
