  • Andrea Brown, MS, LAC, LPC-MH-SUPERVISEE, QMHP

My family moved to South Dakota when I was a child, and I have lived here ever since. I attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD for 3 years where I majored in Sociology. I then transferred to South Dakota State University where I finished my undergraduate degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. After I graduated, I worked for the state of South Dakota at both the Developmental Center and STAR Academy before returning to South Dakota State University to complete my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I spent almost 6 years working in community mental health where I worked with a variety of clients. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and families, and have helped clients with numerous mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, addictions, adjustment disorders, grief/loss, relationship conflicts, negative behaviors, and many more.

The counseling theories I use most often include Solution-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have also attended trainings for Motivational Interviewing and incorporate some of these techniques into my practice.

My current licenses include Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and am working toward completing my Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH) credential.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking/baking, reading, shopping, drinking coffee, and playing board games.
